Surprising Trends in Face Lifts

Aging of the face is inevitable. As we age the skin begins to loosen on the face and neck. The jawline softens into jowls, and beneath the chin, another chin or vertical folds appear at the front of the neck. As the aging population grows, it is obvious why facelift (rhytidectomy) has become the third most desired facial plastic surgical procedure.

According to a survey done by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive, 39% of facelifts performed last year were on patients 61+ years old. Research done at Vanderbilt University Medical Center shows that patients over age 65 are at no greater risk for complications compared to those who are younger.

There are two growing trends in facelifts: 1. having the procedure at a younger age (in one’s 40s or 50s) and 2. an increase in the percentage of males having facelifts. Dr. Jacob has also seen this trend in his practice of facial plastic surgery.

There are several less extensive procedures to improve facial appearance that we perform in the office – Botox, Fillers, Sculptra, Smart Laser Lipo, and Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing.
